Joseph Achille Le Bel

Joseph Achille Le Bel

Le Bel, Joseph Achille (1847-1930), a French chemist. In 1874, Le Bel and Jacobus H. van't Hoff independently proposed the theory of asymmetric carbon atoms. This theory proved important in organic chemistry. Le Bel attended the Polytechnic School in Paris from 1865 to 1867. He was wealthy and liked to work alone in his privately equipped laboratory.
