Herbert Dow
Dow, Herbert (1866-1930), a United States chemist and industrialist. He was the first person in the United States to use mass production to manufacture chemicals. Dow received more than 100 patents. In 1897 he founded the Dow Chemical Company, which became one of the leading companies in its field.
Dow was born in Belleville, Ontario, Canada, to American parents. In 1888 he graduated from the Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland.
