Georges Claude
Claude, Georges (1870-1960), a French chemist and physicist. He is noted for his work in liquefying gases. In 1897 Claude found a safe way to store acetylene gas by dissolving it in a liquid called acetone. In 1902 he invented a process for liquefying air in quantity. In 1910 he invented neon tube lighting, and in 1917 he introduced a new method of synthesizing ammonia. Claude was born in Paris.
