Florence Rena Sabin

Sabin, Florence Rena (1871–1953), a United States physician and medical researcher. Early in her career she contributed to the studies of the lymphatic system, blood vessels and cells, and tuberculosis. In her later years she worked to improve the public health system in Colorado.

Sabin received many honors and awards, including her election to life membership in the National Academy of Sciences. She was the first woman to achieve this distinction.

Sabin was born in Central City, Colorado. She received a B.S. from Smith College in 1893 and a medical degree from Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1900.
