Sun Catcher Activity
Try this sun catcher activity and make a discarded yogurt lid into a dazzling summertime decoration.
What You'll Need:- White paper
- Permanent markers in several colors including black
- Yogurt lid with clear plastic "window," tape
- Gold thread
Step 1: Practice drawing a simple geometric design on white paper. Make thick, black lines around large, simple areas. Fill the areas with color.
Step 2: When you create a design you like, copy the black lines onto the yogurt lid. Then fill in the blank areas with colored markers.
Step 3: Tape a loop of gold thread to the lip of the lid. Hang your sun catcher!

Summertime Wreath
Make a flower summertime wreath to celebrate midsummer -- among other things, it's a Swedish tradition!
What You'll Need:- Bundle of dry reeds (available at a craft store)
- Large tub
- Water
- Paper towels
- Twine
- Scissors
- Ribbon
- Dried flowers
Step 1: Place reeds in a large tub of warm water and soak them for 15 to 30 minutes to soften. Then dry the reeds with paper towels.
Step 2: Gently bend and mold the reeds to form a circle, overlapping the ends and tying them in place with twine. Also, tie the reeds together with twine at regular intervals (about four inches apart) all around the circle.
Step 3: Let the reeds dry completely. When the reeds are dry, insert the stems of dried flowers into the reeds, and secure them in place by tying pretty ribbons around the reeds and flower stems.
To prepare your own dried flowers ahead of time, pick some wildflowers and tie them together with string. To dry, hang the bouquet upside down in a dark closet for several weeks.

Catch the Sun Activity
Try this catch the sun activity and you'll have shimmery stationery or a hanging sun-catcher to show for it when you're done.
What You'll Need:- Colored writing paper
- Scissors
- Newspaper
- Waxed paper
- Pressed plants
- Ironing board and iron
- Pinking shears (optional)
Step 1: Fold a piece of colored writing paper in half and cut it to the size you want. Unfold it and lay it out on a sheet of newspaper. Tear off a piece of waxed paper and lay it over your cut paper.
Step 2: Arrange the pressed plants on the half of the paper that will be the front of your card until you have a design you like. Tear off another sheet of waxed paper and lay it on the first.
Step 3: Now carefully slide the waxed paper stack off of the paper and onto the newspaper. Cover with another sheet of newspaper and carry the whole thing to an ironing board. Help kids use a warm iron to fuse the waxed paper together.
Step 4: When it is fused, trim the waxed paper to fit the colored paper and fold in half with the colored paper inside. The arrangement of plants will form the front of the card. If you like, trim the edges with pinking shears.

Glitterworks Activity

Many people love fireworks. They're a big part of what makes the fourth of July so exciting. So why not express your love of those explosive sky lights with brightly shining glitter?
What You'll Need:- Newspaper
- Black construction paper
- Pencil
- Glue
- Glitter
- Fireworks designs
Cover your work surface with newspaper. Be creative -- try to draw your favorite fireworks display using black construction paper and a pencil. The pencil marks will show a little -- as shiny imprints.
Trace your explosion with a thin line of glue. Sprinkle glitter on the glue. Let the glue dry for five minutes, then carefully shake the excess glitter off the page and into the glitter container to recycle it.
