What are the warning signs of stroke?
If atherosclerosis blocks an artery leading to your brain, depriving it of oxygen, you may have a stroke. If you suddenly have any of these symptoms, it may be a warning sign of stroke, so get immediate emergency medical care:
- confusion or trouble understanding or remembering
- dizziness, lightheadedness, loss of balance, loss of coordination, or problems walking
- loss of consciousness
- numbness, tingling, or weakness in your face, arm, or leg, especially if it's on only one side of your body
- severe headache for no apparent reason
- trouble seeing from one or both eyes
- trouble speaking
