Abduction, in law, the act of removing a person by force or by fraud from the protection or custody of a husband, parent, or legal guardian. The term may be used as a synonym for kidnapping. The term abduction can also apply to the taking of a child, without permission of a parent who has legal custody of the child, by a parent who does not have legal custody. The legal definition of abduction varies from state to state.
