Dmitri
Dmitri, (also Demetrius, and Dimitri), the name used by several pretenders to the Russian throne. The real Dmitri, a young son of Czar Ivan the Terrible, died in 1591, falsely rumored to have been killed by Boris Godunov, who became czar in 1598. A young man claiming to be Dmitri managed to become czar after Godunov died in 1605. He was murdered in 1606. A second false Dmitri then appeared and ruled part of Russia until murdered in 1610. Two other impostors tried to gain power in this period by claiming to be the son of the second pretender. Each used the name Dmitri. Both were put to death.
