Geography of Ancona

Ancona, Italy, a seaport, the capital of Ancona Province, and the chief city of Marche Region. It lies in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains on the Adriatic Sea, about 130 miles (210 km) northeast of Rome. Ancona is a commercial and industrial center. A white marble arch built in 113 A.D. in honor of the Roman emperor Trajan is one of the city's attractions. Ancona was settled in 400 B.C. by exiles from Greece.
