Flying Snake
Flying Snake, a snake that lives in trees in southern Asia. Flying snakes can spread their ribs to flatten their thick bodies, and can then sail from branch to branch or from tree to ground to capture the lizards on which they feed. They are mildly poisonous, are rarely longer than three feet (90 cm), and are generally black or green, marked with irregular bands of bright red or yellow.
The various species of flying snakes belong to the family Colubridae. A common flying snake is Chrysopelea ornata.
