Steenbok
Steenbok, or Steinbok, a small African antelope found in grassy and stony areas, primarily in Kenya and Tanzania. The name is from the Dutch for “stone buck.” The steenbok is reddish-brown above and white below. It is about 20 inches (50 cm) high at the shoulders and weighs about 15 to 30 pounds (7 to 14 kg). The body is from about 27 to 33 inches (69 to 84 cm) long, not including a 11/2- to 3-inch (4- to 8-cm) tail. The male has spikelike horns, which may be up to 5 inches (13 cm) long. Steenbok feed on grass and other vegetation, usually in the evening.
The steenbok is Raphicerus campestris of the family Bovidae.
