Roach
Roach, a European freshwater fish with a silvery body, green back, and red fins. Although too bony to be desirable as food, the roach is much fished for sport. Roaches usually weigh less than one pound (.45 kg). The golden shiner of North America, although not related to the European fish, is sometimes called roach.
The roach is Rutilis rutilis; the golden shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucas. Both belong to the family Cyprinidae.
