Kea

Kea, a New Zealand parrot that lives in the mountains of the South Island. It is also called nestor and mountain parrot. The kea grows to be about two feet (60 cm) long and is brownish-green with various red, yellow, or blue markings. Keas normally feed on fruit and insects. In winter they descend from the mountains to hunt for food and become scavengers. They have been known to kill sheep by driving their powerful bills into the sheep's back to get at the kidney fat.

The kea is Nestor notabilis of the parrot family, Psittacidae.
